Life and Food in Hong Kong

As seen through my DSLR…

(*Note: This is a massive post!)

As was listed in our menu, the dessert below had the ingredient “hasmar” in it. I’ve never heard of it and while taking a spoonful of the dessert I asked my sister what it was, to which she calmly replied “I think it’s frog sperm.”

Yikes!!! I think I nearly threw up in my mouth! Luckily I did some research on it and it turns out it’s an ingredient made from the dried fallopian tubes of a frog. That’s a little better than frog sperm no??? Anyhow, no more local delicacies for me from this point on.

A few photos taken with 120 film (Fuji Pro 400H):

The film was developed at a 1-hour photo lab in HK. I’d normally prefer to go to a professional lab for the digital scans but wasn’t sure where to go in HK. But the scans that came back weren’t too bad…

A couple of black and white photos taken with Kodak BW400CN:

Back to digital…

Chinese alfresco dining…

As you can see in the posters on the wall, there’s a demand for Slash to perform in HK of all places.

Foreigners from all over the world were getting their party on at Lan Kwai Fong for the huge Rugby Sevens tournament, which has been going on in HK since the late 70’s. Not sure how the crazy costumes fit into the tournament celebration, but it sure adds to the atmosphere. I got out before the real partying began…

Some guy ended with a bloody nose…

Hong Kong’s superb subway system is always my preferred mode of transportation.

This really helps at night when you’re drunk.

I’ll end this post with the Hong Kong skyline at night, which is always my favorite.

joschan1 I really enjoyed looking at your photos; they reflect life on HK so succinctly-gritty, exciting, noisy and retro all at the same time!

terrini Thanks, I appreciate it. What you described was exactly what I wanted to portray. HK is home away from home for me.
